Brian Kannard Up to Skullduggery

Many of you remember Brian Kannard, who worked at the old Games Extraordinaire. Our paths crossed recently, and I discovered he’s an author now, having written a book called Skullduggery: 45 True Tales of Disturbing the Dead. I got a copy, and it’s a fun read, especially at Halloween time – so much so that I asked for an excerpt to put on ArmchairGeneral. Here’s a link if you want to read a chapter from our old friend’s book.

And speaking of old friends, Frank Chadwick published a list of what he regards as the 30 greatest war novels.

Congrats to the BoD for all the progress they’re making on Nashcon 2011.

New Board Elected

In the further advancement of our electronic connectedness we have added a new email address: board@hmgs-midsouth.org. This email address links to an electronic distribution that copies your mail to everyone on the board. Got a great idea for the site or important business? This email address will help get you started! The board includes adjuncts now, such as the Website Director (or webmaster@hmgs-midsouth.org.)

In keeping with tradition a secret vote was held outside of normal channels, cloaked in mystery and whispered in dark places. The result is we have a new Chief of the Counter-Revolution. Let the Junta begin. Look for clues as to the identity of the CCR.  Even the board is unaware of their identity. As webmaster I’ve been sworn to secrecy: Anonymity is their name, silence their native tongue. What do you get when you discover the identity of the CCR? That may be an even greater mystery.

Change to Bylaws – Election of Board Members

At the annual membership meeting at Nashcon, a vote will be taken on changing the bylaws regarding election of board members. Currently, every two years five new board members are selected. This guarantees that every two years the board will be comprised of five newbies and no veterans. To provide greater continuity from year to year, the following change has been proposed by the existing board:

In even-numbered years, two board members will be elected to a two-year term. In odd-numbered years, three board members will be elected to a two-year term.

This change will, hopefully, allow HMGS MidSouth to always have at least two experienced board members serving.

We will be able to put this into effect this year de facto, as President Gerald Swick and Vice President Al Gaiser are voluntarily stepping down, creating two openings in this even-numbered year.

Membership meeting on May 22

There will be no HMGS membership meeting on the third Saturday in May, but please try to make it to Wargames on May 22 to help with last-minute Nashcon prep work. Thanks.

HMGS Member Needs Flood Assistance

Baxter told me that Tracy and Melissa Hale lost much of what they own in the flooding, and they have no insurance. We’ve pulled together to help members before, so let’s give them a hand. Baxter says by next Saturday there will be a donations jar at Wargames. Anyone out of area who would like to make a donation can send it to our p. o. box with a check made out to Tracy Hale. The address is HMGS MidSouth, P. O. Box 111972, Nashville, TN 37222-1972. Thanks. – Gerald Swick

NASHCON Goes On Despite Flooding

On May Day Weekend the Mid-South was hit by a 100 year flood *Correction* 500 year flood that has done tremendous damage, taken lives and disrupted a great part of this area. This disaster has affected the members of HMGS Mid-South as well. In spite of this tragedy the membership has urged us to soldier on and continue with Nashcon. In order to do so certain responsibilities will be shifted.

Continue to send game information to GameRegistration@hmgs-midsouth.org. You can continue to contact the President of the organization at president@hmgs-midsouth.org and website issues can still be addressed to webmaster@hmgs-midsouth.org. We have put in place additional forwarding details to make sure someone will be able to receive and respond to your requests. However, we are all under some intense pressure helping our neighbors and friends and businesses dig out so please have some understanding if we don’t reach you within 48 hours.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time and encourage you all to come to Nashcon this year.

Sincerely,

The Board of HMGS Mid-South

Charitable donation can be sent to:
Red Cross and Salvation Army of Middle Tennessee. Those wishing to donate to other areas should Google the name of a trusted organization plus flood relief. Any help will be appreciated by those in need.
