| Comix City Too! in Madison, TN allowed us to come to their shop and put on a Flames of War demo to show off the best miniatures game ever.We decided to have a classic battle between Airborne and Fallschirmjager in France, Summer 1944. The Germans would be the defenders in a Hold the Line Mission. The American commanders have picked out a weak point in the German defensive line and will send the 101st Airborne to lead the attack with ample divisional support. The Fallschirmjager will have to hold the village and stop the American advance so they can counter attack and take back lost positions in the Cotentin peninsula. The Germans are out numbered by almost 50% but they have prepared their ambushes well and eagerly await the American invaders. |

SETUP AND DEPLOYMENT

| The mission is played on short table edges. The Germans will defend the town and the U.S. will attack from hedgerow country. |

Fallschrimjager (Earth and Steel)

| DEPLOYMENT SUMMARY | |
| U.S. Airborne (Turning Tide): All of the U.S. forces started on the table. It placed it’s infantry forward close to the first line of hedges.Fallschrimjager (Earth and Steel): The Germans started with three platoons in reserve and two in ambush. The only platoons deployed are the two MG nests with barbwire, an infantry platoon (deployed in buildings),and the command groups. | |

| TURN 1 SUMMARY | |
| U.S. Airborne (Turning Tide): The U.S. infantry moved at the double trying to stay in cover. We forgot to use smoke…Air support failed to show up.Fallschrimjager (Earth and Steel): The Germans opened up from the houses. | |

| TURN 2 SUMMARY | |
| U.S. Airborne (Turning Tide): The U.S. tried to run it’s tanks on the right flank of the German held town. But with fire from the houses and HMG nests the defenders were able to dispatch the recon jeeps escorting the Shermans. Air Support failed, again, to show up.Fallschrimjager (Earth and Steel): With the recon out of the picture; Panthers opened fire from ambush positions within the village. The Panther A tanks were to much for the weak armor of the Shermans; and all four of the U.S. tanks were blown away. On the other side of the table the infantry in the houses were able to continue to hold off the American advance. | |
TURN 3

Fallschrimjager (Earth and Steel) |
| TURN 3 SUMMARY | |
| U.S. Airborne (Turning Tide): The barbwire along with the nests proved to be to much to handle for the Americans. The lead platoon got torn to pieces. By the end of turn three all that was left was one infantry team, bazooka team and the platoon commander. They passed a moral check then dug in behind the hill. They had enough. Oh, Air Support failed to show up.Fallschrimjager (Earth and Steel): The last ambush opened fire against the lead infantry platoon. With the (un)use of smoke the defenders had an easy time sitting back and letting the fight come to it. |

U.S. Airborne (Turning Tide)

Fallschrimjager (Earth and Steel)
|
| TURN 4 SUMMARY | |
| U.S. Airborne (Turning Tide): The U.S. by the end of this turn concided defeat. Air Support did not show, the 105mm failed to range in and the infantry was bogged down by MG fire and sniper fire.Fallschrimjager (Earth and Steel): The Germans held their ground and denied the invaders the town. | |
| The Germans were able to hold the town with ease; due to the face that the Americans did not use smoke at all. Not one turn the the words “fire smoke” uttered. The defeat was an epic failure. Not to mention the failure of the P-47s showing up. Lesson learned, the U.S. will roll up it’s sleaves and try again next time. Still was a fun game. |

Flames of War -Italy!
Nov 14
Dave Cliffel hosted a great of FOW set in Italy- 1944. The Allies are stymied by the superiority of the German armor. The Luftwaffe was also able to contest the skies. The Americans are reduced to a battle of attrition using infantry. Attacking at night with rangers and special forces the Americans attempt to deplete the German army…
The Americans were tasked with clearing the Winery and taking a fortified farm off picture to the left. The attack was screened by darkness.
Unfortunately, the Americans didn’t realize the winery was defended by an additional German platoon that had taken up a flanking position… such is the difficulty of a night attack.
Great game of an HMGS Meeting!
Thanks for all who came
